Health & Safety Policy
This statement sets out the Health and Safety Policy of UNG Ltd and applies in respect to any person to whom the company owes a duty of care.
UNG Ltd recognises, and fully accepts, its statutory and moral responsibilities to provide the highest standard of health, safety and welfare protection for its staff and other people affected by our work in or about the premises and the work sites for which we have responsibility.
UNG is dedicated to
Achieving a working environment which is as far as reasonably practicable free of work-related accidents and occupational ill health.
Providing necessary training and instruction to our employees so that they are able to undertake tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
Ensuring the safety of the general public who use, or have access to, premises or sites under our control.
Ensuring that the way in which we develop our company contributes to the well-being of society at large.
UNG Ltd is committed to providing safe and healthy working conditions for the prevention of work related injury and ill health and is appropriate to the purpose, size and context of our organization
and to the specific nature of our health and safety risks and opportunities.
This Health and safety Policy provides a framework for setting our health and safety objectives, and emphasizes our commitment to fulfil legal requirements and other requirements.
We are committed to eliminating health and safety hazards and reducing health safety risks and to continually improving the health and safety management system.
Responsibility of employees
- 1. Follow the training received when using any work equipment provided by the company.
- 2. Adopt and maintain safe working practices confirmed in the Health and Safety Manual.
- 3. Ensure use of PPE provided at all times.
- 4. Maintain PPE in good condition and report defects immediately to Management where arrangements will be made to replace if necessary.
- 5. Take reasonable care of their own and other people’s health and safety.
- 6. Co-operate with the company on health and safety.
- 7. Inform the company, supervisor, or health and safety representative if they believe their work is putting anyone’s health and safety at risk or inadequate precautions are putting anyone’s safety at risk.
In order to achieve these aims we shall
- 1. Consult our employees over matters relating to health and safety and encourage their participation in all applicable areas.
- 2. Comply with the Health and Safety at Work etc Act (1974), statutory Regulations and Industry Codes of Practice applicable to our company activities.
- 3. Co-operate actively with Local Authorities, statutory and regulatory bodies in the interests of public safety.
- 4. Establish procedures for the identification and control of risk.
- 5. Identify hazards in the workplace, assessing the risks related to them.
- 6. Implement and maintain safe working procedures in order to prevent accidents, incidents and occupational ill health.
- 7. Provide and maintain safe work equipment.
- 8. Appoint personnel with the skills, abilities, experience and competence appropriate to their role and level of responsibility.
- 9. Ensure technical competence and safety awareness is maintained through training and personnel development.
- 10. Promote awareness of health and safety and good practice through the provision of information and effective communication.
- 11. Provide sufficient resources for the effective management of health and safety.
- 12. Monitor the performance of approved sub-contractors to ensure that they are complying with our Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- 13. Set and monitor specific objectives to enable continual improvement and ensure the effectiveness of our Health and Safety Management system.
To meet the objectives laid down and to ensure compliance with the Policy, UNG Ltd will
- 1. Maintain a documented health and safety system including:
- – duties and responsibilities of key personnel.
- – incidents & accidents reporting.
- – hazards, risk assessments and risk control measures.
- – specific procedures and documents for the works being undertaken.
- – details of arrangements for specific health & safety issues, such as:
- 2 Safe systems and places of work.
- 3. Training.
- 4. Premises, plant and equipment.
- 5. Medical facilities and welfare.
- 6. Fire and other emergency procedures.
- 7. Dealing with accidents and incidents.
- 8. Records.
- 9. Communication.
- 10. Undertake audits and inspections of the various works against policy, legislation and procedure.
- 11. Periodically review the Management System and issue written information on the reviews undertaken.
- 12. Implement management programmes for improvements based upon the reviews undertaken.
- 13. Maintain a training programme and documented records thereof.
- 14. Periodically review and document the resources required to meet UNG Ltd’s objectives.
- 15. Communicate the management, supervision, workers and Sub Contractors on health & safety issues via:
- – training/briefing sessions.
- – induction talks and tool box talks.
- – written notices and information.
Responsibilities for maintaining UNG Ltd Health and Safety Policy, and specific arrangements for health and safety management are set out in the company’s Health and Safety Manual and are the responsibility of Phil Mortimore.
This Health and Safety Policy is available as a controlled document as part of our Health and Safety Management System, is communicated throughout Zimbell Ltd and is available to interested parties, as appropriate.
All employees are required to co-operate with the Company to achieve a healthy and safe workplace and to work with care and attention to protect their own safety and that of others.
All employees are encouraged to contribute to a health and safe working environment, and neglect of any responsibilities in maintaining the company’s Health and Safety Policy will be deemed to be misconduct and dealt with in accordance with the company’s disciplinary procedures.
This policy is communicated at induction and after any revision via tool box talks. The policy is also displayed throughout the Company premises and also in our team packs.
As an essential part of the company’s integrated management system, this policy will be reviewed by Top Management of the company on an annual basis to ensure its continuing effectiveness and applicability.
